For the love of Stage Managers

1. a person responsible for the technical details of a theatrical production, assisting the director during rehearsal, supervising the lighting, costuming, setting, prompting, etc., and assuming full responsibility for the stage during a performance of a play.

Let me tell you – this wee blog post is far too short to list the number of jobs/responsibilities that is covered in that ‘etc.’ that you read in the above definition (provided by dictionary.com).

Stage Managers are the keepers of the show; the keepers of the clock; the keepers of the cast and crew; and keepers of the phrase “The show must go on!”

During every Theatre Orangeville production, I feature a few of the people from behind the scenes in the lobby, and for the current production of Screwball Comedy, which will be on stage until April 22, I raise a glass (and by glass, I mean a photographic print behind glass) to our Stage Management team of Screwball Comedy. These talented women have us in good hands and we are proud to have them!
